The Key Element to Changing Your Life

I don’t know a single person that doesn’t want to change their life. At the very least, we all want to improve. Why not? I want to grow as a person as time goes on, and so does everyone.

The unfortunate truth is that a lot of the time, the changes we want to make on ourselves never become a reality. Changes always occur, whether we like them to or not, but those changes aren’t necessarily what we wish them to be. It’s not that it’s not possible for one to change their life, rather it’s usually because one hasn’t figured out how to. Or they aren’t driven enough…. I haven’t rid myself of my ego nearly as much as I would like to… yet. I haven’t made it happen, but I haven’t given up.

Changing your life doesn’t always entail changing yourself (although that is a big part). It could be spending time with new people, people that care more about you, or that you feel like you can trust. It could be living in a new environment, which is partly people, but also location, atmosphere. Most of all, it could be how you spend your time. Do you follow your passion? Do you do what feeds your soul? Start doing that, and you’ll see a major change in your life.

There is a lot to manifesting change in your life. You need the right attitude, the right drive to make it happen. You’ve got to be determined, sometimes downright perseverant. But it all comes down to one little element that makes all the difference:

“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”

Thomas Jefferson

This quote sums it up for me. It’s more than just true. I think what Thomas Jefferson said should be a mantra for any that wish to change their lives. You have to be willing to do something you’ve never done. If you aren’t willing and you keep trying the same things, it’s ridiculous to expect to see things transform before your eyes.

This is true not only in discovering parts of ourselves, but also in incurring all kinds of things into our lives. If you continuously fail at something, you’ve got to revise your plan, right? As the old saying goes: if at first you don’t succeed, try, try something new. Er… okay that’s my spin-off version. You get what I mean.

In the eye-opening book The Alchemist, there is the perfect example of what I’m talking

about. The young protagonist takes up work at a merchants crystal shop. The merchant is a middle-aged man losing hope in life, and inspiration and enthusiasm are hard for him to come by. As a result, business weakens with every passing day, and all the customers start shopping in different parts of town.

The young protagonist is an enthusiastic young man and soon after getting hired, asks for permission to try new things. With reluctance, that merchant grants him that access. So the protagonist sets up a stand outside to showcase the crystals, and serves tea to all travelers that can climb up the hill where the shop stands. Within a few weeks, business traffic changes, improves. They improved because new things were attempted. Things that the merchant was unwilling to do on his own, and thus, wasn’t seeing the change, or improvement, that he wanted.

This is the way it is for everything in our lives. If you want to change your life, if you want something you don’t have, never had, you have to, have to be willing to explore and experiment with what you haven’t yet explored and experimented with. You have to be willing to do things you’ve never done.

It’s Just a Small Shift in Perspective

Hello everyone,

To follow up my piece from two days ago, I have another quick word to add, as it was yet another really long day yesterday and I was unable to post.

As I said yesterday, the perspective of looking at life in a new way is invaluable. Approaching and viewing “giant problems” as simply a bunch of little obstacles or challenges will change you life guaranteed. Suddenly you’re able to take on things you previously thought you would never be able to do. It becomes apparent how little there actually is to really have to worry about. Possibly best of all is that this kind of view can instill so much freedom and independence in one’s life. Firstly, one does not feel the weight of the world’s problem held above them anymore (like a mountain looming overhead, which is a metaphor often used to describe enormous, draining issues). But also the ability to take apart any issue and look at it differently, treat it differently, make it be something different in your life is such a powerful tool, and something that we could all use in our lives.

The thing that’s special about all this, though, is that the perspectives that we have are not all necessarily so far off the mark. If you can look at the journey towards getting to the point where you doopen your mind to see the world in that way as just a bunch of little steps, it absolutely is something you’re capable of doing. It’s no longer a series of impossibly difficult challenges, but rather something that take a bit of patience, time, and awareness, a journey that doesn’t have to be so hard. Those are all things we all have, to varying degrees.

Sometimes it’s just that little change in how you view the world that is the last piece to the puzzle. (Photo credit: foreverdigital)

This makes me realize truly how powerful and beneficial very slight changes to perspective can be. They can literally change your entire view of the world, as in the beauty of our universe, a small difference like that could make everything suddenly makes sense… or not.

Changes in perspective, no matter how small, can be the beginnings of amazing journeys as well. This is why I always talk about how vital it is to open the mind and explore new possibilities – there is so much we can improve upon. Often times, all one needs is that minute change in point of view.

So keep that in mind the next time you feel stuck in the middle of a “problem” in your life, or when you feel like you’re simply walking in circles. Try looking at things differently, and believe me, the world will change. After all, you are the architect of the world you live in.

Smile Because It Happened

Hello, it’s another Saturday and another posting from me.

I guess my theme recently has been to be inspiring through my observations, and today is no different. I’m finding life to be a bright, exciting place recently, and I’m channeling that experience, that feeling, into something that fuels my writing.

Change is an inevitable part of life. I think that we can all agree on that. How much we accept change is a completely different matter, as change is often a very scary thing. When things move on, one is quickly thrust into the unknown, and I believe that it’s the universe’s way of giving one a little nudge in their life. We fear what we don’t know.

I just wrote a poem about embracing change. I believe that coming to terms with such a scary thing is a huge step towards acceptance of things in general. A way of further becoming part of the rhythm of life. A move in the direction of living a more peaceful and introspective life.

Change is often looked upon with sadness, as it can mark the “end” of something, as we see it. Stuff comes and goes, things come and go, people come and go, in the linear line that is time (as we choose to see). We don’t always move on from these things.

Smileee! 'Cus right now I am smiling at you.. ...

I think the best way to handle change is feel the grief that comes along. Don’t run from the feeling. Notice and acknowledge the fear or the sadness or whatever comes up. But most importantly focus on the positives. Because they are there for you to find them. Nothing truly leaves you forever. That person, place or thing will remain in your memory, or have become a part of who you are. With every negative comes a positive. Perfectly put:

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

– Dr. Seuss

Look to the future, possibility is endless. Let change enter your life and make it the best it can be.

Times Will Change You

We’re always changing,

It’s out of our control,

Let things happen,

Let the waves roll,

;

Times move so rapidly,

They come together, then disperse,

You and I cannot command,

The flow of our universe,

;

For those of us stuck,

In having our way,

Ahead lays a fruitless battle,

With change in the fray,

;

Be strong with yourself,

Know who you are,

But let life take you,

To the near and to the far,

;

Feel the world around you,

Look at the clouds in the sky,

There is change, in everything,

You’re born, you live and you die,

;

We’re always changing,

It’s out of our control,

Let things happen,

Let the waves roll,

;
